Painted in early Spring (notice the snowplow leftovers on the edge of parking lot) with the desire to paint “plein air” while being inside Studio 1 in the Des Moines Art Center. This was one of the first times that I explored the layering of facile ink drawing and oils applied quickly. The tree in the foreground cast an interesting shadow on top of the more precisely detailed stone retaining wall. Perhaps this painting suggests no matter where we are and whatever the circumstances are, we can always find beauty and
